We are an inclusive congregation. Haverstraw is a highly diversified community and Central Presbyterian is welcoming to all. To help meet local needs, we host a monthly event with distribution of free food, clothing, toys, and household goods. We provide phone cards and supermarket gift cards for several families known to us. Our sanctuary and spacious downstairs have accommodated many community- based events including concerts, and theatrical performances by a local youth theatre group, as well as those of the Haverstraw African American Connection. Alcoholics Anonymous and The Rotary have also made use of our downstairs space. We've offered free art workshops to the community's children by way of our artist in residence program. For many years we have shared our sanctuary with a Spanish speaking Charismatic Church. While Sunday School attendance has fallen off since Covid, this is a practice we hope to resume and even possibly to expand electronically to reach young people beyond church walls. Church leaders regularly participate with the Haverstraw Collaborative (a group of local non-profit agencies), in order to assess outstanding community needs and remedies. Learn more HERE.
